What is International Friendships (IFI)?
IFI’s mission is to extend life-changing hospitality and friendship to international students out of reverence to Jesus.
IFI is a Christian community organization that works in partnership with universities, volunteers and local churches to promote friendship and hospitality for international students, scholars and family members.
Who may participate?
Our programs and activities are open to international students of all nationalities and religions; including visiting scholars. Because our staff person is female most of our activities are for women. Our partner organization michiganfriends.org lists additional events for men and women.
How can International Friendships help you?
Social: International Friendships provides opportunities to meet with our American staff woman who will open her home and heart to you. She can help you practice English and will spend time learning about you and your country.
Spiritual: Not all IFI activities are spiritual. There is a home group that meets weekly to talk about topics from an easy English Bible to help you find peace in your current life situation.
Physical: IFI in Ann Arbor has a weekly walking group for women. It is always more enjoyable to get outside and take a walk with friends than alone.
Activities during the Pandemic: At this time when most everyone is meeting online in Zoom meetings we had the idea to hold “mini gatherings”. All of our activities are face to face with live people (social distancing and using masks as necessary). These mini gatherings are limited to four individuals at a time. Meetings are outdoors, in Panera Bread coffeeshops and in individuals homes. It is important to meet with people face to face during this time to encourage each other and build deeper friendships.
